This article describes how to deactivate a Facebook group using a computer or mobile device. You can take this option if you are receiving too many group notifications or if you don’t fit in with the group’s culture.
How to Leave a Facebook Group on a Desktop
Regardless of the browser you use or the operating system, you are using, the desktop instructions function the same.
- Log into your Facebook account and select the Groups icon along the left navigation bar.
Selecting the group name at the top of a group notification in your Facebook news feed is another option to access the group page directly. Consequently, proceed to step three.
2. All of your groups are listed under Groups You’ve Joined in the navigation bar. Choose the group you wish to leave.
If you are the administrator or moderator of a Facebook group, you must select the group from Groups You Manage rather than Groups You’ve Joined. The remaining steps are identical to those described below.
3. This link will take you to the page for the specified group. Select the icon with three dots in the upper-right corner. Select Leave group from the resulting drop-down menu.
4. A confirmation window will then display. Select Exit Group to complete the process and permanently leave the group.
Enable Prevent persons from inviting you to join this group again if you do not wish to hear from the group or its members again after leaving.
How to Leave a Facebook Group on a Mobile
If you are utilizing the official Facebook app, the instructions following are compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Sign in to the Facebook app on your mobile device. Select the three-line menu icon at the upper right.

Scroll down this screen and select the Groups block.

You will be presented with a page with all of your group alerts. You will see a list of your groups as giant icons at the top. You can swipe right or left to go between these and choose the desired group to exit.

This will open the group. Select the three-dot icon at the upper right corner of the screen to open the group Tools menu. Select the Leave Group icon.

You’ll see a confirmation message asking if you really want to leave the group. Select Leave Group to complete the process.
If you select More Options, you can Turn Off Notifications rather than leaving the group altogether. This way, you can stop annoying group notifications but still visit the group.

Once you quit the group permanently, you will see a confirmation message. You may also have the opportunity to report the group to Facebook if you leave the group due to inappropriate, harmful, or other content.
