The 5 Best Dating Sites in Canada (What I Learned)

Here’s a quick rundown of my top five Canadian dating sites. Later in this piece, I’ll go over my reviews in greater depth.

  1. eharmony.ca
  2. Match.ca
  3. Tinder
  4. Plentyoffish.com
  5. OkCupid

If you live in one of the larger cities, such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, or Edmonton, you’ll be pleased to learn that each of the sites/apps listed above has a sizable membership base. I’ve spent a lot of time in Toronto and Vancouver, and I can tell you that dating services and apps are extremely popular in both Canada and its southern neighbor, the United States. In fact, if you’ve ever dated in the United States, you’ll notice that many of the same sites and applications are popular in Canada.

What characteristics distinguish a superb dating site or app? To make it worthwhile to sign up, it must have a large number of members, a simple interface, and a good male-to-female ratio.

Canada, like the United States, is a cultural and racial melting pot. There are plenty of attractive men and women of various shapes, sizes, and colors to be found.

Each of these locations has its unique personality. Some are preferable if you’re searching for a long-term relationship, while others are ideal for casual encounters.

Without further ado, here are my detailed reviews of the top five dating sites in Canada.

1. eharmony.ca

If you live in Canada, the first site I would recommend is eharmony. It’s aimed squarely at individuals hoping for long-term connections. Don’t join up for this site if you’re searching for a quick meetup (instead, use Tinder or OKCupid… I’ll go over these in more detail later).

Neil Warren, a licensed psychologist and author of ten books on love and marriage, developed eharmony. It has a global membership of roughly 33 million people.

The style and functions of eharmony are among the best, but they come at a high price. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better site than eharmony if you’re serious about finding a long-term relationship that could lead to marriage. I know a couple people who met their spouse on there.

2. Match.ca

Match.ca is the second best online dating site in Canada and is where I would go after eharmony.

In the blink of an eye, you can sign up. Fill in your birthday, gender, match gender, email address, username, and password to establish your profile. After that, you’ll be sent to the first page, which includes questions on your appearance, personality, interests, lifestyle, and what you’re searching for in a partner.

There are nine pages of these types of questions, but you don’t have to answer them all right away. Go to the top of the page and select a tab to begin browsing the site. You’ll be prompted to choose three matches so Match can get a sense of the type of profile you’re looking for.

3. Tinder

Tinder, the “Swipe Right” mobile dating app, is probably the most well-known in its sector. It makes meeting other singles in your area quick, easy, and enjoyable. Its easy-to-use design and casual demeanor have reportedly garnered 57 million users throughout the world. So, how does it function in practice?

It’s not difficult to get started. Creating an account is as simple as entering a phone number or a Facebook account after downloading the program on any mobile device.

Users can then choose up to 9 photos to display, as well as a brief bio. Personal information isn’t prioritized as much as it is on other online dating sites, with the exception of a brief profile and the possibility to list your employment or education. This gives Tinder a distinct laid-back vibe, which may or may not be what some users are searching for.

4. Plentyoffish.com

Plenty of Fish was founded in 2002 and now has over 30 million registered members around the world, with 3 million daily active users.

Plenty of Fish is a free website that relies heavily on advertising to stay afloat. This may appear to be ideal, but it is not. You get what you paid for, as the saying goes.

Because it is free, you will find that even if you just get one response, you will have to send out a large number of messages. I also discovered that the members on POF were of lesser overall quality than those on the pay sites I mentioned earlier.

5.OkCupid

Although OkCupid was not the first dating app, it has been around since 2004. There’s a reason for its enduring popularity. It’s not as shallow and depressing as Tinder’s swipe culture, but it’s also not as serious as eHarmony.

It’s the ideal compromise for folks between the ages of 25 and 34 who want more than a casual meetup but still want to have a good time. OkCupid also does an excellent job of matching you with people who are compatible with you.

That’s because it relies on a complex algorithm and your answers to questions like “how long do you follow someone on social media after meeting them?” and “is it safe to answer your phone while on a date?” to present you with the appropriate profiles
