Smartphone manufacturers have begun to build handsets with larger displays and thinner bezels in recent years. The shift from the typical 16:9 aspect ratio to the now-trending 18:9 aspect ratio is one result. The notch was first introduced by Apple on its flagship iPhone X (Review) to allow for a larger screen while still allowing for an earpiece and front camera to be placed in their traditional locations, and many Android manufacturers have since followed suit. The notch has been a popular feature as well, but Vivo and Oppo have both demonstrated a new approach to get a nearly all-display smartphone: moving parts.
Oppo Find X Summary
Oppo’s Find X is a phone with an almost bezel-less design. Oppo placed the selfie camera, facial recognition hardware, and back cameras in a motorized module that moves up when needed to accomplish the large display design. It boasts an 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage and is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor. A 16-megapixel primary camera and a 20-megapixel secondary camera are included in the Find X’s dual camera configuration. Face recognition hardware such as a flood illuminator, infrared camera, front camera, and a dot projector are included in the 16-megapixel selfie camera. It sports a 3730mAh battery and Oppo’s VOOC rapid charging technology. Color OS 5.1 is installed on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.
