One of the most popular social networking sites in the world is Facebook. With more than a billion users worldwide, the platform inevitably attracts scammers, hackers, and other criminals. Hackers can access a Facebook account in a number of ways. They might gain access to your sensitive personal information or use a phishing scheme. We’ve got you covered if you’re unfortunate enough to have your Facebook account compromised. In this article, we’ll explain how to report and get your Facebook account back, as well as provide you some crucial advice on how to keep your account safe.

How to Know If Your Facebook Account is Hacked or Compromised?

There are various indicators that your Facebook account has been hacked or otherwise compromised. You must first determine whether unauthorized access has been granted to your Facebook account. To accomplish it, take the following actions:

1. Go to your Facebook profile and click on the hamburger menu at the top-right.
2. Go to Settings and head to Security and Login. You will see an option to view the devices which are logged in to your Facebook account.
3. If you see any device which looks suspicious, click on the ‘Not You? Log Out’ option.

Having said that, there may be more indications that your Facebook account has been stolen or hacked. These could consist of:

• Your email address or password has been changed.
• Your name or birthday has been changed.
• Your account is sending friend requests to people you don’t know.
• There are posts on your profile which you didn’t create.

How to Report and Recover Your Facebook (FB) Account

If your Facebook account is compromised or being used improperly, you can report it and get it back. What you must do is as follows:

1. Go to facebook.com/hacked.
2. Choose an option from the list of reasons provided. Once done, click on Continue.
3. The page will take you to secure your account settings. Click on Get Started. The tool will analyse all the apps, password, email address, and more.
4. Once this is completed, it will provide an option to change the password and review your email address.
5. Click on Continue and follow the on-screen instructions to recover your Facebook account.

However, you will still need to recover it if the email address connected to your Facebook account is changed. Facebook sends a message with a unique link to your previous email address when your email address changes. To undo the email address change and safeguard your account, click that link.

How to Report a Facebook Account That is Impersonating You?

You may occasionally come across a Facebook profile that uses your name and photo to pose as you. What you should do if you or a buddy notice such an account is as follows:

1. Go to the profile of the account that is impersonating you.
2. If you cannot find it, search for it using the name or ask your friends to send the link of the profile.
3. Click on the profile and then on the three dots on the cover photo.
4. Tap on the Report button and follow the on-screen instructions to report the account impersonating you.

Tips to Make Your Facebook Account Secure

Whether you’ve experienced a hack or not, it’s critical to keep your Facebook account secure. There are a few techniques you can use to accomplish this. What you must do is as follows:

Use Two-factor Authentication

You may protect your Facebook account by using the two-factor authentication tool that Facebook has introduced. When you access your Facebook account from a mobile device or a computer, the feature enables you to provide a unique login code to authenticate your login attempt each time. Follow these steps to turn on this feature:

1. Go to Security and login settings
2. Scroll down to Two-factor authentication and click on Edit.
3. Choose the desired security method and follow the on-screen instructions to activate this feature.

Get Alerts About Unrecognised Logins

Facebook users can now configure alerts for unauthorized login attempts from their accounts. Basically, this security feature notifies you whenever someone tries to log in using a different computer or web browser. You can learn more about the origin of the login attempt from the notifications. Here’s how to make it possible:

1. Go to Settings and click on Security and Login Settings.
2. Scroll down to ‘Get alerts about unrecognised logins’ and click on Edit.
3. Choose where you want to receive your alerts, such as from your email account or with a Facebook notification from a recognised device.
4. Click on Save Changes and the feature will be activated.

Log out From Your Account When You Use A Different Computer

Always remember to log out of your Facebook account before leaving a computer, whether it be your own, a friend’s, or a work computer.

Always Choose a Strong Password

Creating a secure password for your Facebook account is crucial. A password should be made that is simple to remember yet challenging for others to decipher. Do not create a password using your email address, phone number, date of birth, or any other personal information. To make a strong password, it is usually suggested to combine letters, numbers, and special characters. Alternately, you can use the strong password suggest feature in Google Chrome or Safari, which will generate a password using random characters and save it to your Google or iCloud account for convenience.

Never Share Your Login Details With Anyone

One of the most vital pieces of advice is never to divulge your login information to anyone. In particular, this is true while you are online. Scammers may design bogus websites that resemble Facebook and instruct you to log in using your email address and password. Make sure you are always using the correct website. Simply enter www.facebook.com into your browser to visit Facebook if you are unsure.

Check for Malware or Viruses

It’s critical to monitor your machine for any dangerous malware. To keep your sensitive information safe, make sure to regularly scan your computer for viruses, malware, and other threats and to promptly remove them.
