How to Change the Language on Your Facebook Account and News Feed
Facebook automatically translates postings that are in other languages into English, as you may have observed. But what if you want your entire Facebook account to be in a different language?
You might want to improve your English if it’s not your first language, if you’ve traveled abroad for a cultural experience, or if you’re learning another language.
Whatever the cause, you may convert Facebook into any of the more than 100 available languages, including oddball dialects like upside-down English and pirate English.
It’s unclear why you would require these additional selections, but hey, nobody’s watching.
You have two options for changing your language on Facebook: on the desktop website or in the mobile app. This is how it goes:
How to change the language on your Facebook account using a computer
Go to the “Language Settings” page using this link, then skip to Step 5 to change your Facebook language from your computer.
If it doesn’t work for you, proceed to the complete instructions below:
1. Utilize your computer’s web browser to sign into your Facebook account at Facebook.com (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Edge etc.).
2. Click the downward-pointing arrow in the top-right corner of your screen, near to the question mark, on the Facebook menu bar.
3. Doing so will reveal a menu. There will be a tab labeled “Settings” close to the bottom. Just click it.
4. On the left side of your screen, click “Language.”
5. You are currently on the page for language settings. If you’re multilingual and wish to prevent inaccurate translations of your friends’ posts, you can change your Facebook language, choose the language into which posts will be translated, and check any languages that you don’t want to be translated. On the right side, select “Edit” to change the language on Facebook.
6. From the drop-down menu, select the language of your choice.
7. To confirm your language selection, click “Save Changes.”
You can also change the language from your News Feed page:
1. Open your News Feed, which displays all of your friends’ posts in a feed.
2. Scroll down until you see a box on the right side of the screen with a few different language options.
3. You can click “Change Language” in the pop-up box after choosing one of the visible languages provided in this box. You may also access a list of all possible languages by clicking the plus sign (+) to the right of the box.
4. To make the adjustment, choose your preferred language from this selection.
How to change the language on your Facebook account using a mobile device
You can either visit the Facebook website on your phone or, if you already have it installed, use the Facebook app to change your language.
If you don’t already have the app loaded, go to Facebook.com using the web browser on your phone and take the following actions:
1. Visit Facebook.com and log into your account. In the top right corner, select the menu button (three horizontal lines).
2. Choose “Language” under the Help & Settings section.
3. Next, select your language from the selection by swiping down. To expedite the process, you can also use the search bar.
4. Select the language you want to use on Facebook by clicking on it, and the change will be applied.
If you own an iPhone, you can change the language from the Facebook app:
1. Launch the Facebook app and confirm your login.
2. Select the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner.
3. Select “Settings & Privacy” from the list of options. A submenu will be revealed. the “App Language” option.
4. You can explicitly choose your language from the list on this screen, but the Facebook app language will automatically be adjusted to match the language of your phone (which you can alter in your phone’s settings). To change the language, find it using the search box or by scrolling down.
If you own an Android, you can also change the language through your Facebook app:
1. Select the menu icon (the three horizontal lines) located in the top right corner of the menu bar.
2. Locate the “Settings & Privacy” submenu by scrolling down. Choosing “Language.”
3. Select your language from the selection that is now available. Additionally, you have the choice to set your phone’s settings to use the “Device Language” by default.
